My name is Kim and I am the new receptionist at Burnside Medical Centre. For the past thirteen years I have worked in the Veterinary industry as both a vet nurse and more recently as a receptionist. A few months ago, I decided I needed a change so I applied for the reception job at Burnside. It has been quite a steep learning curve for me but I am slowly getting my head around it all and I enjoy a challenge.

I have lived in Christchurch for thirty years now but was born and raised in Northland before that. I am married and have three adult children as well as two retired greyhounds.

In my spare time I like to go for walks, especially around the port hills and in the forest. As well as reading and watching movies and cooking.

We are pleased to announce that 24 Hour Surgery is returning to 24 hour opening hours, 7 days a week from Sunday 28 January 2024. 

The reduction in hours was always a temporary solution to staff shortages. We have been successful in recruiting 14 FTE of nursing staff and are now able to have a full complement of staff round the clock. 

As always, patient safety is core to all of our operations. From time to time, we may need to temporarily redirect some non-urgent patients if presentation numbers are very high. Please encourage your patients to visit the 24 Hour Surgery Facebook for the most up-to-date information before they attend. 

If you have shared 24 Hour Surgery reduced hours on your Facebook, website, phone answering system or on posters around your practice, please update these as soon as possible.

The waiting room is running a limited capacity to keep everyone safe – you may be asked to wait in your vehicle and will be invited into the building when the doctor is ready to see you.

This practice respects that some people are not able to routinely wear a mask and they have an exemption for this.  However, both our practice staff and other patients are in a particularly vulnerable situation with unmasked patients entering the building.

For those who have an exemption, it would be appreciated if you would consider wearing a mask for the short duration that you are here.

If you are getting a flu, MMR or other vaccine, it will affect timing of the COVID-19 vaccination. Please discuss with your health provider.
