Getting a COVID-19 vaccine is an important step you can take to protect yourself, your kaumātua and whānau from the effects of the virus. For more information on the COVID-19 vaccines and eligibility visit Ministry of Health – COVID-19 vaccines

If you are getting a flu, MMR or other vaccine, it will affect timing of the COVID-19 vaccination. Please discuss with your health provider.

We are seeing patients “face to face” via appointments, all patients are requested to wear a mask please. 

Social distancing rules apply. If waiting room has more than three patients, you may need to return to your car.  We will phone you when safe to come in.

Flu vaccines NOW available for 65yrs and older

Flu vaccines available after 17th May for  5- 64yrs

Please phone the clinic if your child is under 5yrs of age for a flu vaccine (as these are special orders upon request).

Please update your personal contact information as soon as possible, otherwise you may miss important messages and phone calls from us. This is particularly important during the current COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Catherine Xu

General Practitioner

Dr Catherine Xu graduated from Otago University in 2004. After graduation, Catherine worked as a house surgeon in Christchurch Hospital and Whangarei Hospital, and as a locum GP in several surgeries in Christchurch. Catherine took over Burnside Medical in 2013. As always, Catherine enjoys and thrives on the rich variety of clinical experiences in the surgery.

Michelle Falloon

Full Time Nurse

Michelle completed her training as a Registered Nurse in Christchurch 1986, then afterwards trained in Scotland as a Midwife in 1990. She has worked in a wide variety of nursing and midwifery specialities including acute nursing, midwifery and management, before joining the Burnside Medical Practice in May 2020

Kim Tozer

Receptionist

My name is Kim and I am the new receptionist at Burnside Medical Centre. For the past thirteen years I have worked in the Veterinary industry as both a vet nurse and more recently as a receptionist. A few months ago, I decided I needed a change so I applied for the reception job at Burnside. It has been quite a steep learning curve for me but I am slowly getting my head around it all and I enjoy a challenge. I have lived in Christchurch for thirty years now but was born and raised in Northland before that. I am married and have three adult children as well as two retired greyhounds. In my spare time I like to go for walks, especially around the port hills and in the forest. As well as reading and watching movies and cooking. I look forward to meeting you all.

Policies

  • All charges are subject to change at the doctor’s discretion.
  • These are our usual fees. Payments maybe different if you need more than 15 minutes of the consultation.
  • Payments are expected at the time of consultation. Accounts that remain unpaid for 30 days incur additional administrative fees. They may also be lodged with our debt collection agency, and you will be liable to pay the costs associated with debt recovery.
  • Overseas visitor (non-eligible for NZ subsidised healthcare ) $120

To enrol with Burnside Medical, please complete the enrolment application below and submit as indicated. Please note that by enrolling you are asking Burnside Medical to be your normal healthcare provider. We will process your application as soon as possible. Only complete this form if you are eligible to enrol. By enrolling with us you have subsidised consultation with us, an enrolled patient has priority to be seen when we are busy


Repeat prescription

We are happy to provide repeat prescription for our enrolled patients for certain stable conditions. You will have to see your GP for regular reviews and monitoring of your progress to help you improve your health. It is at the discretion of the doctor whether a patient can have repeat prescriptions without a face to face consultation. All repeat prescriptions require 48hrs notice (this is working days). The cost is $28. Urgent same day prescriptions are $36.
